Our Journey Toward Excellence and Innovation

Rooted in the ancient civilisational ties between India and Sri Lanka, the Jaffna International Law Conference (JILC) reflects a continuum of shared values that have shaped the region for millennia. Across the narrow waters of the Palk Strait, cultures flourished, ideas travelled, and traditions intertwined – from the Sangam age scholars and maritime traders to the vibrant cultural.

This historic connection, bound by language, art, and philosophy, continues to inspire dialogue and understanding in the modern world. Drawing from this legacy, JILC was founded through the collaboration between the University of Jaffna and Surana & Surana International Attorneys, India, to rekindle that timeless spirit of intellectual exchange.

Today, JILC stands as a meeting ground where the shared heritage of the Indian Ocean’s southern shores meets the contemporary quest for justice – uniting scholars, jurists, and thinkers in shaping a more inclusive and humane legal order.
